Reed's,
Inc. Exhibits at American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2009 Annual
Meeting
Study findings released showing ginger provides significant
reduction of chemotherapy-induced nausea
LOS ANGELES, June 2, 2009 (MARKETWIRE) -- Reed's, Inc. (NASDAQ: REED), maker
of the top-selling sodas in natural food stores nationwide, announced today
that it exhibited at the ASCO
2009 Annual Meeting. Founded in 1964, the American
Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is the world’s leading professional
organization representing physicians who treat people with cancer. ASCO released
the official findings of a study funded by the National
Cancer Institute on the effects
of ginger on post-chemo nausea at the meeting.
The ASCO Annual Meeting is considered the premier educational and scientific
event in the oncology community. More than 26,000 professionals attended the
educational and scientific sessions that offered cutting-edge information
on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer.
“It was exciting to be there alongside companies that provide cancer
treatments and support services,” stated Mr. Chris Reed, Founder and
CEO of Reed’s, Inc. “The original intent of this company was to
be able to help people by providing a ginger tonic disguised as a soft drink.
It’s great to get validation from the medical industry on the effectiveness
of ginger in treating nausea. I’m pretty sure we’re the first
soft drink company to find our all-natural main ingredient competing with
drugs.”
Reed added, “It’s nice to be valued as more than just a fun,
thirst-quenching beverage company. Ginger has many other traditional uses
and seems to be attracting more and more research. I have seen numerous studies
around ginger and its cancer-fighting properties; I have seen medical studies
where ginger beats Dramamine, a popular motion sickness drug. In Europe, they
use ginger for arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties. I hear from
customers that are using it to relieve migraines and other inflammation conditions.
Ginger is one folk medicine that seems to hold up to medical scrutiny.”
“We get a pretty steady stream of people emailing to tell us how well
our drinks work in helping them overcome nausea and digestive complaints and
particularly post-chemo nausea. We will continue to expand on the many contacts
we have received at this show to help promote our drink’s benefits to
the oncology industry,” concluded Reed.
